The way audiences are consuming products is changing due to the amount of technology no available. With this new technology people are using them to watch films instead of going to the cinema , as the cinema get increasing expensive people are going less and less. Watching films at home cost far less than watching a film in the cinema. You can have drinks and food that cost far less that having to buy it at the cinema. However watching films losses many of the benefits of watching a film at the cinema such as the social experience, as people are far more likely to go to the cinema with another person than on their own, the high definition screen far large than TV screens at home and the full surround sound. Watching films at home has be come far easier due to websites such as Netflixs and LoveFilm and new TV sections such as Sky Box Office. These have made watching films at home easier as all of these are instant download, however there is a long delay from getting the film from the cinema to these websites and this means that films people say they want to see and then forget about them as they take too long to get from the cinema on to the websites.
Companies have found many ways to battle the new craze of watching films at home by introducing new schemes such as Orange Wednesdays where by Orange users can get 2 tickets at the cinema for the price of 1, this saves a lot of money and attracts people to the cinema as they can see a film for less, however because it is only available to people on Orange it has very limited users and also as it is midweek many people are just getting home from work and do not really want to go out after work they just want to relax, therefore this scheme is both good and bad at attracting people to the cinema.
DVD sales have also decreased due to the increase in watching films online. This means that people are no longer paying for them in shops and these shops are losing business and shutting down. Audiences still have to pay for Movies and TV programmes on sites such as Netflix and LoveFilm meaning that the production companies still get money however people how do not have a disposable income may not be able to afford to pay for films and television programmes. They are therefore having to watch the films illegally which is a big problem for companies in the film industry. This is because people do not have to pay to watch them they can watch them for free. This is a big problem because companies are losing money due the fact that no money is being paid for watching the film, this is very bad for the companies because they lose out on multiple chances to gain money therefore the industry is losing money as it is losing viewer for multiple reason. Cinemas will be effected mostly by the increase in watching films at home because they will not be getting many customers and this will make cinemas shut down and they will become less seen. This means that watch films at home will just become more popular and with the addition of movies to youtube the sites views will hit an all time and also being able to watch film not devices such as iphone and tablets on the go will mean that films are more accessible than ever before.
